Nicky Oppenheimer
Biography
Nicky Oppenheimer comes from the Oppenheimer family, a South African family which was the first generation to chair De Beers, the world’s leading diamond company. He is the third richest African with a net worth of $8.7 billion in 2022. Nicky Oppenheimer’s working life was spent at the mining group Anglo American Corporation and De Beer’s Diamond Company. In 2012 he retired as Chairman of De Beers and sold the Oppenheimer stake in the company to Anglo American for $5.1 billion. Nicky Oppenheimer has become a spokesperson for the preservation of Southern African heritage and culture with a strong focus on sustainable development and issues of conservation and environment. He owns about 720 square miles of conservation land in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Botswana. Learn more about him here.
