Biography

In the past few years, Tracey Austin has been leading the capital mobilisation strategy under the UK Department for Business and Trade’s Financial Services sector. She has 25 years of experience working in emerging markets as an investment banker and direct and intermediate investor. Her passion is emerging markets particularly Africa, having worked in 24 African countries, across a range of financial institutions, including British International Investment, various investment banks, philanthropic investor Omidyar Network, and hedge fund BlueCrest Capital LLC. Her return to South Africa, from London after 15 years, has her working with large local pension funds on their narratives and investment policy statements around impact investing and energy transition investing. She is an advocate of mobilising capital by challenging narratives and building data and systems to support investing into Africa and a former co-founder/board member of Impact Investing South Africa.

As an outdoor enthusiast, she is a keen hiker and runner, making the most of Cape Town and its beautiful surrounds.
