Biography
Thierry Koenig is a director at ENSafrica (Mauritius). He is the Country Head of the Mauritius Office and is the Business Unit leader for the Commercial Dispute Resolution (CDR) Business Unit, firm wide. The CDR Business Unit comprises the firm’s Competition, Dispute Resolution, Employment, Forensics, Insolvency, IP and Ports, Shipping and Logistics legal departments. Approximately 200 practitioners currently make up the CDR Business Unit, and it has a total staff complement of about 300 people.
Thierry specialises in corporate mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, project financing and as well as corporate and commercial litigation and arbitration.
He is the standing legal adviser to numerous large Mauritian conglomerates including the largest insurance company and commercial bank.
Thierry has lead numerous M&A transactions and cross border transactions in Mauritius as well as in the Indian Ocean region. He has worked on most of the recent capital markets transactions on the Stock Exchange of Mauritius (SEM) and has very recently lead the complex restructuration and listing on the primary market of the largest conglomerate in Mauritius on SEM.
He is also involved in international litigation and arbitrations and has acted in several high profile cases of national importance. He has been involved in over a dozen appeals before the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council. Thierry is actively involved in the Mauritian fiduciary practice in the Financial Services Sector and is currently the Chairman of the Takeover Rules Committee, the President of the LCIA-MIAC Users’ Council and sits on the Supreme Court Rules Committee and the Council for Vocational Legal Education
Thierry was made Senior Attorney on June 2010 and is listed by Chambers and Partners as a band 1 lawyer and is stated as “the best solicitor in Mauritius by far” as well as a practitioner with a “very pragmatic approach and good strategic vision”. In 2016 Chambers and Partners highlight his “deep experience dealing with complex transactions on the island.” Thierry is recognised as a leading lawyer by IFLR1000– Banking and Finance and Mergers and Acquisitions (Mauritius).
