Biography
Phil has considerable experience in structuring and closing international equity and debt offerings for banks and other financial institutions. He has served as Director of Investments, Africa for Equator Capital Partners, LLC since 2013. From 2005- 2013, Phil was Senior Vice President at WorldBusiness Capital, where he managed origination, underwriting, closing, collections and portfolio management of long term loans under OPIC guarantees. He specialized in banks, leasing companies, and microfinance institutions with broad exposure to Eastern Europe, Latin America, Asia and Africa. From 1997–2004, Phil was a Vice President at HSBC Equator Bank performing business development and credit risk assessment of HSBC’s correspondent banks and other counterparties in twenty countries in Africa. Previously, from 1985-1997, Phil held various positions in investment banking, venture capital, and financial advisory and also managed a family-owned manufacturing and hospitality business.
Phil served 6 years as a Director, chairing the Board Credit Committee of Madison Finance Company Limited (subsidiary of Lusaka Stock Exchange listed company Madison Financial Services, Zambia), and is a Director of Microplan, (subsidiary of Zimbabwe Stock Exchange listed company FBC Holdings). Participated as solo speaker, panel member, and panel moderator at AFSIC 2017-2019 on “Identifying the Optimal Capital Structure for Banks and Other Financial Institutions”; “Revolution, Risks and Opportunities in African Banking”; and “Investment Opportunities in Africa’s Insurance Sector for Long Term Investors, an Analysis of the Risks and Rewards”.
