Biography

Michael Habte is the Chief Operating Officer of the Ethiopian Securities Exchange (ESX), where he oversees all aspects of the exchange’s operations, including trading, clearing, settlement, and regulatory compliance. He plays a critical role in defining organizational goals and objectives, aligning them with the long-term business strategy, and managing the daily operations of the electronic trading platform to ensure operational efficiency.
Before his current role, Michael co-led the ESX Project Office, which was responsible for the design, establishment, and successful capital raising from a diverse group of private sector investors, both domestic and international.

With over 15 years of experience in the financial industry, Michael has extensive expertise in macroeconomic research, data analytics, and commodity market analysis. He has worked with top-tier global financial firms, including Citigroup, Bloomberg, BBVA, Moody’s, and Wood Mackenzie. He holds a master’s degree in economics from Johns Hopkins University, with a strong foundation in quantitative model-building and econometrics.
