Biography

Sarah Makena is an economist and policy practitioner with over a decade of experience in international development finance and management consulting. She specializes in climate finance, policy analysis, and enterprise support, driving market-driven investments for sustainable development. Sarah holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Statistics from the University of Nairobi and a Master’s in Policy Analysis from Kenyatta University. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Public Policy Analysis, focusing on market system interventions for climate change response.

Her expertise spans agribusiness, renewable energy, and water and waste management, with a focus on climate change adaptation and mitigation. Sarah’s in-depth knowledge of carbon markets enhances her ability to leverage market-based mechanisms for effective climate action.

Currently serving as the Senior Green Finance Specialist for FSD Kenya, Sarah leads the green finance project, demonstrating her leadership in enterprise support and promoting market-driven investments that address pressing environmental challenges.
